Daniel Spence led the field when he won the Rotary Young Photographer of the year competition in Southam. This is the first stage of a National competition organised by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland.
Daniel, and the other competitors, had to submit a collection of 4 photographs which depicted 'Olympic Spirit'. Daniel's winning entry showed the shadow of a cyclist, he said "I have tried to capture the ‘spirit’ of an Olympic cyclist. The length of the shadow symbolizes the lengths the cyclist has to go to, to win." The judges, Keith Owens and John Berry from the Leamington Spa Photographic Society agreed that he had a strong collection. They chose his portfolio, submitted in the Intermediate class, above winning all entries in both Intermediate and Senior classes.
Stuart Price and Bethany Conway took first and second place respectively in the Senior class. Stuart said "My images demonstrate the coming together and unifying of people or community using sports."
The competition was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Southam and Southam 2000. Contestants were all students at Southam College. The winning contestants now go forward to the district heat arranged by Heart of England Rotary.
